Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has pulled a death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, who was convicted of murder in Miami-Dade County. It is the first time DeSantis has cancelled an execution. A second execution was still set to go ahead Tuesday.
The reversal came days after a botched lethal injection involving Christa Pike drew sharp attention over Florida's execution process. The governor provided no statement for cancelling the order for Thompson in particular.
