Several homes on the Big Island were ruined by a mud flow from Lala. Lala left Hawaii communities smothered in mud, communication gone. More than 57,000 Hawaii customers remain without power. The storm wrecked a cemetery, setting off a hunt for the dead. One Naalehu resident prayed fervently with her dog as the storm struck in darkness with no power and no cell service.
