OpenAI earlier released the GPT-5.6 on July 9, 2026.
The model is billed as an highly token-efficient system for coding, and software creation, with a 54% improvement over prior versions.
OpenAI said the launch was delayed to satisfy robust U.S. cybersecurity measures.
GPT-5.6 is expected to cut compute costs for programmers and quickly produce code generation.
OpenAI also integrated Codex into its desktop application, now called ChatGPT Work, and bundled the new model inside.
Sea announced a partnership to host a regional Codex hackathon in Singapore in August.
The event will target students, emerging startups and developers looking to experiment with the new tools.
