Intense shaking spread fast. Tsunami warnings went up at once. Mexico and Guatemala faced alerts for high waves. Shoreline dwellers moved quickly to elevated ground. Aftershocks continued, some strong. The biggest aftershock reached 5.0. No major damage or injuries reported yet. Homes and streets were quiet in Chiapas and nearby areas. Tsunami alerts remained for hours. They were later cancelled as seas stayed calm.
