Andy Burnham spoke today. He set out a ten‑year devolution plan. He called it a “No 10 in the North”. The plan would hand city mayors extra powers. Burnham stated that steps is set to lift the north’s economy and close the gap with that south. He said the goal is more local control over roads, training and cash. The scheme targets infrastructure, skills and investment.
It is his first big speech since announcing his bid for prime minister. He pressed local leaders to team up on the three priorities. The BBC and The Guardian reported the announcement.
